Children between 3 and 6 learn within a mixed-age community where younger children are inspired by those a little older, while older children strengthen their knowledge, confidence and sense of responsibility by helping others. Through daily life together, a natural spirit of cooperation and contribution develops.
Children freely choose purposeful activities suited to their stage of development and work with them for as long as they need. This freedom within a carefully prepared environment supports concentration, perseverance and a remarkable sense of harmony within the group.
At this age, children have a powerful drive to understand the world around them. Through rich experiences in language, mathematics, practical life, sensorial exploration, nature, culture, art and music, they are given keys to explore their world and gradually make sense of it.

Practical life
Through practical life activities, children develop everyday skills such as preparing food, fastening clothes and caring for their environment. These purposeful activities strengthen independence, concentration, coordination and confidence.
Sensorial activities
Specially designed materials help children explore qualities such as colour, shape, sound, texture and weight. By refining their senses, children develop their ability to observe, compare, classify and understand, building foundations for later learning.
Language activities
Children develop spoken language and vocabulary within a rich bilingual English–Arabic environment. Through carefully sequenced activities, they explore sounds and symbols, begin writing and gradually move towards reading.
Mathematics
Children explore numbers and mathematical relationships through concrete materials they can manipulate and understand. As concepts become clear through experience, children build mathematical thinking, confidence and a genuine enjoyment of numbers.
Cultural activities
Art, music and science (including geography and biology) are integrated into the classroom experience. Through hands-on materials, plants and experiences with the natural world, children develop observation, curiosity and care for their environment.

An International Preschool Programme in Cairo
Nile River Montessori’s Children’s House is a bilingual English–Arabic preschool programme in Cairo for children from approximately 3 to 6 years.
